High Efficiency DNA engineering. Custom-made DNA vectors. Custom-made bacterial strains

Introduction

Genetic engineering aims at rearranging the DNA sequences in order to confer new properties to diverse living cells. Genetic engineering is an important component of fundemental biological research and also enables biotechnology industries to discober, better understand or even create new biological molecules or processes.
The enterobacterium Escherichia coli is used by BGene as a "genetic factory": besides creating custom-made E/ coli strains and plasmids, we can modify or create all types of DNA vector in this bacterium (plasmids, cosmids, BACs etc.) that can then be integrated into other hosts.

BGene is also currently working on the development of new, highly promising, genetic tools originating from biological species and intended for  use in biological research.

BGene is a partnership between the Laboratory for the Adaptation and Pathogeny of Microorganisms (Laboratoire Adaptation et Pathogénie des Microorganismes, UJF/CNRS, Grenoble, France) and The Institute for research into Information technology (INRIA) for molecular and system biology. Other partners include Genostar (Bioinformatic analysis). www.genostar.com

Target Audience

We can create custom-made bacterial strains and plasmids for :

  • Biotechnology industries that use bacteria for the synthesis of molecules of industrial or pharmaceutical interest
  • Academic research teams (Molecular Biology, Biophysics, System Biology, Synthetic Biology, etc.)
  • Micro and nano-technology laboratories that use bacteria

Key Benefits

Strong expertise in genetic engineering and molecularbiology:

  • Genetic constructions including all steps from design to validation and rapid strain or vector delivery
  • Strong connections with renowned academic laboratories (http://recombineering.ncifcrf.gov/) enabling BGene to stay at the cutting-edge of genetic engineering research
  • Large collection of strains and plasmids for all engineering purposes
  • Large choice of vectors and reporter genes.

Collaborations established with partners well known for their expertise in Genetic Engineering: Hans Geiselmann (LAPM, CEG research team, UJF/CNRS/INRIA) for molecular and system biology, and with Hidde de Jong (IBIS team, INRIA Grenoble – Rhône-Alpes) and Genostar (Montbonnot) for bioinformatic analysis
