RNAXIS: The next generation of services in RNA analysis

Introduction

RNA is one of the most important components of all living organisms. For complex organisms it represents the first functional level of genomic expression and for certain viruses RNA is the only means of extrapolating genetic information.

For complex biological processes like cancer or therapeutic treatments, integrated data from RNA analyses enables the identification of specific RNA biomarkers. These RNA biomarkers can be used for pathology diagnosis or to verify that a drug has proven its efficacy against target cells.

However, RNA analysis is more complex than DNA analysis because RNA molecules are so much more sensitive to degradation. This means that specific competencies are required to manipulate and transform RNA into more stable single or double strand cDNA components – a factor crucial to the effective analysis of any RNA samples.

RNAXIS - A Business Unit of Floralis, the Technology Transfer Subsidiary, of the University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble - 1, is a research and development organization dedicated to providing a range of molecular biology research services centered around three core themes:

  • RNA purification, cDNA synthesis and sequencing.
  • RNA biomarker discovery.
  • Bespoke RNA research services and project development.
Benefits

Researchers working in both the fields of public and private research can exploit the many benefits of the RNAXIS offering:
  • A universal double strand cDNA synthesis method: open up endless possibilities with regards to full genome RNA virus and bacterial transcriptome sequencing.
  • Robust know-how and technologies dedicated to RNA Biomarker discovery.
  • Service and expertise:  access to a unique RNA analysis platform.
  • Projects delivered on time & on budget

  • Possibility for French private companies to access “Crédit Impôt Recherche” (a means of offsetting research budget on tax).
  • Consultancy: bespoke RNA consultancy services available.

Next-Gen Sequencing opens new opportunities in pathogen detection and particularly for RNA virus. Generally, extracted RNA from biological samples contains more RNA from the host than from pathogen. For improving the yield of specific sequences, RNAXIS provides a process for enriching RNA pathogen. Coupled to this enrichment process, RNAXIS also provides a Universal Amplification of RNA that produces double strand DNA fragments fully compatible with Next-Gen sequencing.
